Claudio Vitali is presently Consultant of Rheumatology of the Humanitas ‘Mater Domini’ Hospital, Castellanza, Italy. He spent a large part of his Academic career at the Internal Medicine Dept. and Rheumatology Unit, University of Pisa. Afterword, he covered the role of Chief of the Internal Medicine Dept. and Section of Rheumatology at the Hospital of Piombino, Italy.
He received his medical degree in 1975 at University of Pisa, where he also qualified in rheumatology. From 2008 to 2010 he was a council member of the Italian Society of Rheumatology (SIR). He is also a member of the FADOI (Federation of Hospital Internal Medicine Physicians), and into this association he is presently chairman of the Rheumatology Scientific Section.
Dr. Vitali worked for many years as Assistant Editor, and then as Associate Editor of ‘Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology’ journal.
Dr. Vitali was Co-chairman in the EULAR Study Group for the development of activity criteria for Sjögren’s Syndrome, and was member of the ACR-EULAR Steering Committee for the development of classification criteria for the same disease.
He has long-standing experience in clinical management of patients with connective tissue diseases, namely Sjögren’s syndrome, systemic lupus, and systemic sclerosis
Dr. Vitali has authored about 130 ISI publications on connective tissue diseases that are largely cited in the medical literature (around 10.000 citations). In addition, we wrote many chapters in book and over 300 abstracts to national and international conferences.
